Youth Forums

#YouthShaped Adventure

Whilst Patrol Leaders from the Scout Troop are members of the Group Scout Council, all the other youth members also have a say in the activities of the Scout Group.

In the Beaver Colony the forum is referred to as a Beaver Chat – this is where the Beavers sit down with the leaders to talk about what they’ve done recently, to let Beavers know what has been planned in the coming weeks, and to undertake simple decision making by offering different choices. Such a choice might be, “Should we do a treasure hunt or a countryside walk?”

In the Cub Pack, the Cubs have meetings similar to the Beaver Chats, but instead they are called Pack Forums and the Cubs are encouraged to take a greater role in deciding the programme. The Sixers and Seconders also join the leaders for the Pack Leadership Forum to give them a greater say over matters effecting the colony and to give them the sense of having responsibilities to match their position.

In the Scout Troop, the Scouts have an almost identical set-up to the Cubs (Troop Forum and Troop Leadership Forum), however instead of leaders chairing the forums, the Scouts are encouraged to do so themselves.

By using the above opportunities, the young members of our Scout Group can be involved in guiding the success of the Scout Group by influencing the programme and highlighting any issues that may arise from week-to-week.
